NASA/AIR FORCE SPACECRAFT CHARGING ANALYSIS PROGRAM (NASCAP-2K) v4.1

Description:

NASCAP-2K is the next generation spacecraft charging analysis code.  It is a comprehensive update to the original NASCAP spacecraft charging codes written twenty years ago.  As a collaboration between NASA and the US Air Force Research Lab (AFRL), it builds upon the Air Foce's DynaPAC charging algorithms and will replace 3-D spacecraft charging codes for all environments:

  • Geosynchronous
  • Auroral Charging

Version 4.1 is currently available. A new spacecraft definition tool, Object Toolkit (OTk), provides easy, interactive spacecraft geometry definition. A new user-friendly graphical user interface, (GUI) simplifies many of the old, cumbersome operations. NASCAP-2K can create realistic geometric models, simulate charging, and calculate and display surface potential/currents, space potentials, and particle trajectories.

Input Description:

User must define spacecraft definition and charging parameters using the graphical user’s interface.  NASCAP-2K will then calculate results.
