Surveying and
Examination of Eroded Returned Surfaces (SEERS) Initiative
- Activities
ACTIVITIES - FY04
Documentation Mining and Analysis of the Genesis Spacecraft
Return Capsule
Organization: Jet
Propulsion Laboratory
Principal Investigator: Insoo Jun
Status:
Start date currently in formulation; 1 year effort
Objectives:
-
Provide documentation of
initial conditions on the capsule (not the spacecraft);
-
Provide the forecasts of
the environment that Genesis was to encounter in space;
-
Conditions include but
not limited to: engineering model, materials and parts
lists, contamination control plan, thermal and mechanical
analysis.
Genesis L1 Charged Particle Environment
Model (GL1-CPE)
Organization:
Jacobs-Sverdrup
Principal Investigator:
Joe Minow
Status:
Start date February 16, 2004; scheduled completion, February
16, 2005
Objectives:
-
Incorporate Genesis GEM/GIM
particle flux measurements with energetic particle
observations from other L1 spacecraft
-
Construct model of ion,
electron energy flux spectra, fluence required for materials
degradation analysis;
-
Adapt results and
include as L1 environment for the L2-CPE model;
-
Develop
users/documentation manual for L1, L2, and Lunar CPE
Mission Meteoroid Environment Analysis
Comparison Study
Organization:
Morgan Research
Principal Investigator:
Bill Cooke
Status: Start date
currently in formulation; 1 man-month effort
Objective:
- Exercise new meteoroid model and compare the results to
the pre-flight analysis of the Genesis mission.
